Sean Mazzio is new to the produce industry, but he already knows the industry quite well. “There is so much that can happen from the farm to the store. I certainly never thought much about it until starting, but it has given me a new perspective when heading to the market for myself. It truly is a team effort, where great communication is needed to be successful,” he says.
Mazzio has a background in math and finance and worked as a data analyst in the supply chain for a few years leading up to his position as financial business analyst at Sunny Valley International, Glassboro, NJ, assisting growers and working with customers daily. “Whether it be accounting or data analysis, I am able to provide our team with support from multiple viewpoints.”
He says he enjoys his new position, and loves “the ever-changing environment. Every day there is a different challenge for our team to tackle.”
Sunny Valley International is a supplier of imported and domestic blueberries, and exclusive marketer for the Jersey Fruit Cooperative, marketing blueberries for family-owned blueberry growers in New Jersey.
When Mazzio isn’t at Sunny Valley, you can find him and his fiancé enjoying hikes with their dog. The couple also fosters dogs from a nearby shelter.
Mazzio likes Produce Business because it “keeps a fresh perspective on market news. It has been a great tool for me to learn as I start my journey in produce.”
