Yesenia Vega has been working in the produce industry for four years now, and the one thing she wishes people knew about the industry is “this business is always changing, evolving, and you learn something new every day.”
She began her produce career at Don Hugo Produce, Edinburg, TX, where she currently sells product and warehouse space for clients. “A typical day is getting to work early and making calls, looking over emails, and going to the cold rooms to look at the product,” says Vega.
Located in the Rio Grande Produce Park in Texas, Don Hugo Produce specializes in importing and distributing Mexican produce. Don Hugo works with food industry companies across the United States to provide ripening, in-and-out cold room and freezer storage, cross docking and inventory management.
Vega says she is thankful for her colleagues who have taught her everything she has learned about the industry. “Also, I get to meet new people almost every day, and I love communicating with clients,” she says.
When she isn’t working, you may find her eating her favorite food, tacos. She isn’t picky either. She likes any kind — chicken, steak, chorizo, al pastor, etc. Vega says she also enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, and singing karaoke in her spare time.
When asked what she likes most about Produce Business, she says, “all the inside information about what is going on in the produce world.”
